Are customers in Sutton willing to pay for sustainability?

The shift towards environmentally friendly practices, driven by government bans on plastics and polystyrene cups, is impacting local businesses in different ways. While some customers are on board with the changes, others are less willing to pay extra for sustainable alternatives. Here’s a glimpse into what one Sutton business owner is experiencing.
Interview with Tom, Owner of a Sutton coffee shop
“The new regulations have been tough on us,” says Tom, who runs a small coffee shop on Sutton High Street. “We’ve switched to eco-friendly cups and packaging, but not all customers are happy with the changes.”
Tom explains that while some regulars appreciate the effort to be more sustainable, others are reluctant to pay the higher prices that come with using greener products. “I’ve had a few customers complain that their coffee now costs more because of the paper cups. In a time of recession, every penny counts, and it’s a balancing act trying to keep prices fair while meeting these new environmental standards.”
“We’re all for going green,” Tom adds, “but the challenge is convincing customers to see the value in paying a bit more. It’s not easy when everyone’s feeling the pinch.”
